Deciding what to do with a sick or deceased animal can be a big decision. Most people prefer to have their pet buried on their property, but don't have the equipment or experience to handle it themselves.
Richard Logan of Animal Burial provides a professional, sensitive and humane solution for all types of large animals, including cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, alpacas, goats, emus and dogs.
Based in North Waikato, Animal Burials covers the areas from Wellsford to Te Puke and everywhere in between.
When there has been a death or an animal has been euthanized by the vet, we can provide for our customers the following options:
A burial on the owner’s property.
Richard will also transport animals back to the owner’s property if they are being agisted or grazed off-site and it’s not practical or allowed to bury them where they are.
If you cannot bury on your property we can remove and transport animals for a burial elsewhere e.g. a friend or neighbours’ property.
Removal offsite for disposal.
Removal and transport to a cremation centre.
Equipment and Process.
We have various diggers available for burials.
The burial takes up to an hour depending on the circumstances and size needed.
The digger enables us to pick an animal up especially from difficult situations on the farm and position it in another area of the property if required.
We also have a Ute and trailer with a crane and winch. This is for the removal and cartage of the animals.
Once you or your vet have contacted us, the date and time is then arranged. We will endeavour to arrive at your property when required.
Owners will often want time with their animal before and once it has passed. Also, before we cover the burial site over.
We respect this time and try to do what is needed to ease the loss.
About Us
Richard Logan has more than 30 years’ experience driving diggers for contract work. He began burying animals over 30 years ago, when he had to bury his wife's horse and later a neighbour’s cow.
Richard got asked by a vet if he could help with their clients in the same position. From then on, he found that there was a need for such a service
"I always try to get there on the same day, as there's usually a lot of emotion" says Richard. This means that he is on call seven days a week.
Richard works with the local vets in the area. "If an animal has been sick for a while and the owner has made arrangements with the vet to have it put down, then I'll be there at that time. However, when the death is unexpected, that's when you have to be available at any time."
While he primarily deals with horses or cattle, Richard has buried just about everything. Using a three-ton digger, the job can take up to an hour. "You try to make a nice, neat job, because of the emotion involved for the owner.
"For me, it's important that my clients know I will be there when they need me and that I'll do a good job for them."
